Contrary to belief yes it is. There are a few dishes that can make use of raw shrimp, but it is made in a manner that most of the bacteria is eliminated. I mean eating a raw shrimp is as unhealthy as eating raw oysters, but people still eat raw oysters. Do you see the point I’m trying to make? Use of lemon or vinegar can rid of much of the harmful bacteria on shrimp, since it’s highly acidic, some Mexican cuisine make use of this, as well as Filipino and Thai dishes (off the top of my head). It’s not necessarily a health issue if you made the right precautions, I mean it really irritates me how the mind set of people limit the use of certain ingredients. For me the true essence of cooking is true experience, if you did not experience it or not tried to then you can not say for sure. Just keep in line with health concerns. To finish off also, I’ve eaten shrimp uncooked, prepared with balsamic vinegar and lemon to be eaten like a c̫o̫ςκtail, and i wasn’t hospitalized. It was quite refreshing actually.
