Due to the drivers not paying attention a small car and a big truck collide

2. Due to the drivers not paying attention, a small car and a big truck collide; both are initially moving at 35 mph towards each other. Compare the magnitude of the force the truck exerts on the car to the magnitude of the force the car exerts on the truck. Which force is greater? Which vehicle would you rather ride in? Describe why you made your choice.

Answer
Since the collision is head-on, so from Newton’s third law of motion, both will exert SAME force on each other. So, magnitude of force that truck will exert on the car = force the car will exert on the truck. Again, from Newton’s second law of motion, it will be safer to sit on the truck because for the same force, the car will feel greater acceleration.

And greater acceleration means greater change in velocity which again means greater change in kinetic energy and all this means greater work done on THE DRIVER.
