which is correct, email trail or email thread?

let’s say that a person emailed me and i’m sending it to someone else to use as the reference. should i say, see emil trail or see email thread?
EMAIL TRAILS means just the two (2) of the party involved communication… EMAIL THREAD means if everybody is interacting on the same issue sending their responses on a various EMAIL IDs.
